It’s summertime, and everyone should be on the pursuit of happiness (at least on the weekends, when we have free time).
Pretty Lights, Take the Sun Away (10:34) – A nice long warmup song from Pretty Lights for safety talk, introduction, stretching, and warming up. That should take up the first 5 minutes or so of the song, and then the rest is for exploring the different positions and to get those legs warmed up. Towards the latter half of the song, the lyrics from a sample pop in, and you’ll recognize them from Big Willy Style. That’s ALL I’m sayin…
Black Eyed Peas, Meet Me Halfway (4:44) – BEP never fails to make a catchy tune. Gradual increases and different positions here.
Limp Bizkit, Take a Look Around (5:20) – I don’t normally like Limp Bizkit, but I heard this used in a spinning class I took once, and I thought it was perfect for heavy sprints during the chorus. The music blows up and you kind of feel like fighting someone.
David Guetta & Chris Willis ft. Fergie and LMFAO, Getting Over You (3:08) – Found this mix online (I try not to listen to the radio too much, so for all I know, everyone knows this song) and fell in love. I love Fergie, and I have a recent obsession with LMFAO because they are just so much fun! We picked up the tempo out of the saddle a few times. The whole song is fast for the most part; you could really do whatever you like here.
The Bangles, Walk Like an Egyptian (Bassnectar Dubstep Remix) (5:18) – Love Bassnectar and anything Lorin touches. I liked this because people know this song, and it’s long enough where you can start a climb. Increased after 1.5 minutes of the song in 30 second intervals until you were pretty much at a 10 on the scale (the highest on my scale).
Justin Timberlake, Lovestoned (7:24) – Jumps for JT! This is another long one, but there are two phases of the song. The first is fast, the second is slow. We did jumps for almost the whole song (gave a recovery after the heavy Bass climb), and kept it at a light resistance until we hit the slow part, where I encouraged the students to challenge themselves onto jumps on a hill.
Pretty Lights, Finally Moving James Brown Remix (5:38) – Another short recovery here, and then we being playing around in the 3 positions and gradually increasing to a moderate resistance.
Ke$ha, Tik Tok (3:20) – Soft spot for the trash dress wearing lady. Jumps on the 4 count during the chorus. Easy enough!
Bassnectar, Magical World ft. Nelly Furtado (5:09) – Last climb of the night. Another Bassnectar remix, using lyrics that people should be familiar with from the radio. Gradually increased every 30 seconds.
Ellie Goulding, Lights (Fear of Tigers Remix) (4:54) – This might actually be the last Ellie remix that I have! Ahhhh! What will I possibly do without Ellie in my class?? A few fast, light sprints during the chorus.
Kid Cudi, Pursuit of Happiness ft. MGMT (4:37) – Slow it down, and breathe in. It’s over 🙂
Find happiness everyday in the little things.
